About Us

Welcome to Masa and Joyce! We are a family owned Okazu-ya serving Hawaiian food, sashimi, and poke. Masa comes from a fishing village in Okinawa, from Kumejima island, and grew up training under his dad who was a fisherman. He goes to the fish auction and selects good quality, fresh ahi. Joyce is from Futenma, Okinawa, who grew up on a pig farm. She worked most of her young adult life in the food service industry in Okinawa, and in Hawaii. In the early 70’s they both moved to Hawaii, met and got married. Not long after, they decided to pull their talents together and opened up shop.

Their four children grew up working at Masa & Joyce, while going to school. Today, we have a wonderful staff who is part of our ohana who work hard, and are dedicated to serving you all.

Some of the recipes came from Joyce’s mom(Oba-chan), such as the coroke, shoyu nasubi (eggplant), and the way our spam musubi are rolled. Oh, we used to serve a champuru (stir-fry) made with shishito peppers and spam…this was one of Oba-chan’s creations…so ono!

Our staff works hard to maintain what our family has started, and are doing a great job! We are so grateful for them!

If you ever want to have Hawaii-style “comfort” food, come on down!
